Apple reportedly developing gesture controls, curved screens for iPhones ars_ab.settitle(1287905)

Apple's New iPad Scores Two Out Of Ten For Repairability

According to a Wednesday report, the control feature would allow you to perform tasks by moving your finger close to the screen without actually touching it.

Secondly, Apple is also working on an iPhone display that curves inwards gradually from top to bottom. That would suggest that these are OLED displays, which are much more flexible than LCDs. It isn't clear yet why Apple is developing this technology at this point, but the source said that it would take at least two years to complete.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment. While it won't be the primary way for users to interact with their devices, finger and hand gestures could add another layer of convenience to iPhone controls.

Apple to start using own chips in Macs, Intel shares plunge
It has outperformed by 33.10% the S&P500. (CORT) by 18.55% based on its latest 2017Q4 regulatory filing with the SEC. The chip maker reported $1.08 earnings per share for the quarter, beating the consensus estimate of $0.86 by $0.22.

In its report, Bloomberg notes that both features are only in an experimental phase and that they may not necessarily come to new iPhones. The company is said to be working on these new projects in hopes of making its smartphones stand out in a sea of competition.

In the fourth quarter, Apple was responsible for about 20 percent of smartphone shipments following the launch of the iPhone X and iPhone 8, beating out second place Samsung and Huawei, according to IDC. Samsung is already working on a foldable smartphone, while Huawei is seeing increased success in Asia.

Technology changes faster than most of us can keep up. Apple's implementation does not require a motion sensor though. Still, other companies have implemented similar features in the past. There is a new phone being released every month it seems like, and Apple feels the need to step their game up to compete. It's also the first iPhone to feature an OLED display.
