Tim Cook blasts Facebook over data privacy

Tim Cook has criticised Facebook over the social media giant's recent privacy-hacking scandal.

Speaking about Apple's business practices, Cook said, "The truth is we could make a tonne of money if we monetised our customer, if our customer was our product".

"We've elected not to do that", Cook explained, according to Recode. Cook repeated the mantra of his predecessor, the late Steve Jobs, that maintaining user privacy is important to Apple in contrast to its competitors.

At the annual China Development Forum in Beijing last week, Cook said there was a need for "well-crafted regulation" to prevent users' information being peddled around without their knowledge. "I think it's - privacy to us is a human right", he said. We've worked for the music industry to code things explicit, and so a parent could say, "I don't want my child listening to explicit content".

When asked about what he would do in Zuckerberg's place, Cook responded: "I wouldn't be in this situation". China was given the infamous title of the worst abuser of internet freedom for a third year in a row, due to government censorship and restrictions of basic online services and an nearly complete lack of digital privacy.

In the days leading up to the demonstration the military had warned that anyone approaching the border fence would be in danger. The large turnout of marchers in the risky border zone also seemed to signal desperation among Gaza residents.

As Zuckerburg sinks deeper into a public relations crisis over accusation for selling his company's user's private data, Tim made a point to criticise Facebook for both the political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica affair and it's approach to consumer privacy policy. It's a civil liberty, and something that is unique to America.

"This case is about much more than a single phone or a single investigation, so when we received the government's order we knew we had to speak out", Cook said in an email to employees in February 2016.

In an interview with CNN's Laurie Segall, Zuckerberg responded to a question about outside regulation in an unexpected way: "I actually am not sure we shouldn't be regulated".

Revolution: Apple Changing the World airs at 8 PM ET, April 6 on MSNBC.

You're the product." Zuckerburg had mocked Cook's ridiculous concept by saying, " What, you think because you're paying Apple that you're somehow in alignment with them?
