Dog food withdrawn from stores after euthanasia drug found in food

Makers of Kibbles ‘N Bits Gravy Train Ol Roy and others pull dog food

"They were falling over".

The FDA started an investigation after a TV station tested several cans of Gravy Train dog food and found 60 percent contained pentobarbital, a drug used to euthanize animals, found in some products. "They were convulsing", Mael told ABC7 of the horrifying incident.

WebMD reported that Smucker's is pulling several brands of Gravy Train, Kibbles "N Bits, Ol" Roy, and Skippy canned wet dog food off the shelves amid concerns that they containing pentobarbital, a lethal barbiturate used to euthanize dogs, cats, and even horses. "I would give anything to see Talula again".

Taking action into their own hands, ABC7 partnered with Ellipse Analytics to independently investigate pet food for traces of euthanasia drugs. In Talula's memory, an online petition urging Smucker's to recall all dog food and only produce products that meet the same legal health standard as human food now has over 58,700 signatures.

The samples were analysed to determine both the presence and the amount of pentobarbital in the dog foods, using test methods conforming to FDA protocols.

Gita destroys Tonga homes; Fiji next
The centre of Cyclone Gita was located about 60 kilometres South South West of Ono-i-Lau earlier this afternoon. The Prime Minister said they have signed off on $750,000 of relief for Tonga after Cyclone Gita hit.

All products included on the retailer's recall list supplied by Smucker came from one manufacturing facility.

The company says it believes the food was contaminated due to a specific ingredient from one of its suppliers, but hasn't gone into great detail.

According to Jaclyn Bowen, executive director of Clean Label Project the pentobarbital findings are not surprising.

"Clean Label Project's 2017 Pet Food Study revealed high levels of heavy metals, BPA, and acrylamide in some of the nation's best selling pet food".

The recall comes after Washington D.C. news station WJLA found pentobarbital in multiple cans of Gravy Train dog food.
