Oxfam to face United Kingdom government review over Haiti sex worker scandal

The British government, meanwhile, has threatened to cut off funding to Oxfam, or any other aid organization that doesn't cooperate with the government's new effort to crack down on such abuses, according Mordaunt, who expects to meet with Oxfam officials on Monday.

GOVERNMENT money could be pulled from Oxfam following a scandal over staff misconduct, the global development secretary has warned.

Responding to reports that staff who left Oxfam in Haiti later joined other aid agencies, without their knowledge of the incidents, Christian Aid: "We are committed to living out our values of respect and dignity for all, and we will investigate any claims about any individuals involved in the Haiti incident to ascertain the facts, should they relate to Christian Aid and should we receive further information".

Oxfam's chief executive Mark Goldring was on BBC Radio 4's Today and said, "With hindsight, I would much prefer that we had talked about sexual misconduct".

Former Oxfam employees in Chad claimed staff held sex parties with prostitutes.

The former Secretary of State said that "the reason why Oxfam has landed in this position is because they have not been fully open and transparent about what happened".

Ms Mordaunt told BBC1's The Andrew Marr Show that the failure to pass on information to relevant authorities shows an "absolute absence of leadership".

"Sexual abuse is a blight on society and Oxfam is not immune", Thomson said.

Mr Goldring's words come after the Department for International Development said late Friday that the charity had shown a "lack of judgement" in its investigations following the 2010/11 incidents.

Obamacare sign-ups down 3.7%
State-run marketplaces tended to have longer sign-up periods and some invested heavily in marketing. The report also showed that enrollment dropped sharply in some states.

He added: "Everybody - the 25,000 staff and volunteers - are compromised by this, the hundreds of thousands of people who support Oxfam every month are compromised by this, and to everybody I apologise". He continued that, "because of that the department did not escalate it to ministers, they did not tell and I was never aware of it".

The charity is under growing pressure after an investigation by The Times found young sex workers were hired by senior staff in Haiti after the 2010 quake which devastated the island and left up to 300,000 people dead.

The charity also said it had yet to find evidence proving allegations that underage girls were involved.

"There has been in my view, not just a cover-up with Oxfam, there is a denial, a culture of denial in the aid sector about the exploitation and sexual abuse that has taken place historically for decades", she said.

She will meet with the charities regulator this week.

"They did tell the Charity Commission there was sexually inappropriate behaviour, bullying and harassment of employees, but they did not report that to us".

Former worldwide development secretary Priti Patel told BBC Radio 5 Live the Oxfam allegations had not surprised her and said it was "absolutely appalling".

In a statement, Oxfam denied providing positive references for those implicated.
