Nintendo Forecast 17.74 Millions Nintendo Switch Units To Ship By March 2018

Nintendo Forecast 17.74 Millions Nintendo Switch Units To Ship By March 2018

If you add that to the 2.5 million consoles sold in March (which would be in Q4 FY 2016), the Nintendo Switch has reached the lofty target of 14.86 million consoles in the 10 months since its launch. In less than a year.

Nintendo now expects to sell 15 million units of the Switch before the end of its fiscal year in March, 2018.

In contrast? The WiiU - first released back in 2012 and finally put out of its misery in 2017 sold only 13 million consoles all together. Super Mario Odyssey is one of the best selling games on Switch, around 9.07 million copies are sold it is release in a year ago.

Standing at 14.86 million units, by the time December 2017 arrived in its full glory, the platform had outsold WiiU. Other hits were "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe", which moved 7.33 million copies, and "Splatoon 2", with 4.91 million.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) Slashing iPhone X Production Amid Weak Demand
While sales of the iPhone X have been strong in the USA , the device has reportedly failed to catch on as much globally. Ordering fewer units would leave Apple with as little stock as possible moving into the next quarter.

Of course, a console is nothing without its software, and the games for the Switch have sold incredibly well. While it's currently unclear how long Nintendo can maintain this momentum, it shouldn't surprise anyone if a few months from now we're talking about it having outside the Gamecube's lifetime sales too. This is an increase of over 261 per cent and the highest quarterly operating profit since the quarter ending December 2009. We'll see if Game Freak can get out the new Pokemon Switch game in 2018, or if we'll have to wait a little bit "later" to finally play Pokemon on a household console.

The forecast is one million higher than the one shared three months ago, which means that the console sold better than expected during the Holidays. Marquee title Super Mario Odyssey sold through over 9 million units, and has become the system's biggest seller.

Do you think the Switch is deserving of such success?

At the same conference, Kimishima also stated that Nintendo expects to sell almost three million units in the current quarter, and is targeting 20 million for fiscal 2018, starting April 1, 2018.
