Australian Open: Kyrgios topples idol Tsonga in high-octane clash

Round one results at the Australian Tennis Open

Nick Kyrgios must not let playing on Rod Laver Arena douse his natural fire when he plays Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the standout match of the Australian Open third round on Friday, according to former champion Mats Wilander.

The Spanish left-hander will play Diego Schwartzman, who beat Alexandr Dolgopolov in four sets, for a place in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Kyrgios recovered from the setback but couldn't breach Tsonga's serve and was left repeatedly flat-footed by the 15th seed's exquisite volleying.

Kyrgios for his part is so spiky, so "me against the world" in his attitude that he would fit right in to the pugilistic world of boxing.

"He's a good player". I didn't really say anything. "I was just happy to get through".

"[With Will] that was awesome". I think he's got it.

"It was surreal seeing him tonight ..." Tsonga was down 5-2 in the fifth set but found the inspiration and endurance to pull off a comeback victory. "I kind of felt that I could faint at any moment", she said.

Here's a big problem Tsonga needs to solve.

Amazon raises its monthly subscription fees by almost 20 percent
The raise comes to an 18 percent increase , bringing the total annual cost of a monthly Prime subscription to $156, up from $132. That stands in stark contrast to the $99 Amazon charges yearly subscribers, who notably won't be facing a price increase.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 gets refreshed and very exclusive new look
The company began sponsoring the games way back in 1988 when it entered as a local sponsor during the Seoul Olympic Games. With the Winter Olympics coming up, Samsung spiced things up with a new model, albeit availability is very limited.

"Honestly, when I saw him out here I was so nervous, no joke", Kyrgios said of Smith in his on-court interview. "Obviously when the times get tough, you hit a good shot, the crowd gets behind you, it's a good feeling". "I'm just going to try and take it and see how far I can go", said Wozniacki, who will play No. 19 Magdalena Rybarikova next.

Kyrgios goes on to face Bulgarian third seed Grigor Dimitrov in the last 16. "Tsonga played better when he was behind (against Denis Shapovalov) in the previous round".

When Nick Kyrgios is on court, the 22-year-old is usually the hothead.

It was a double-fault that cost Tsonga the first tiebreak, ironic given how well he served throughout the match, but he roared back into the match in the second to level things at one set apiece. "Then he gave a nod to another childhood favorite, turning to Smith in the stands".

The squall passed quickly, though, and he knuckled down to take Kyrgios into a third tiebreak, storming to a 5-2 lead after another charge to the net.

Top seed Rafael Nadal made light work of John Millman's conqueror, Damir Dzumhur, winning 6-1 6-3 6-1 in less than two hours. No. 10 Pablo Carreno Busta beat No. 23 Gilles Muller and will next play No. 6 Marin Cilic, a 7-6 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (4) victor over Ryan Harrison.

The change of scenery worked for Nadal, who lost last year's final to Roger Federer before going on to win the French Open and U.S. Open titles.
