Apple and Google Are Rerouting Their Employee Buses as Attacks Resume

A tech shuttle in San Francisco

The buses were attacked on highway 280, so the company has chose to divert them from that road, even though doing so would extend the commute time by 30-45 minutes in either direction.

He says another Apple bus had a window smashed last week.

The buses were not struck by accident, Montiel said.

The commuter buses had windows shattered by an unknown object, possibly a rock or a pellet gun.

Shuttles run by Apple and Google in the San Francisco area have always been plagued by locals' expressions of resentment.

Buses carrying Apple and Google employees to and from work in the San Francisco Bay Area have been the target of flying objects.

All of the incidents happened on Tuesday on Interstate 280 between Highway 84 near Woodside and Highway 85 near Cupertino. The route change "could mean an additional 30 to 40 minutes of commute time in each direction for some riders", the email explained. Following the incidents, both the tech firms have rerouted employee buses keeping in mind the safety of their employees.

Following the incidents Apple sent an e-mail to its employees, saying that its coaches had been temporarily rerouted.

In a report by Mashable they noted that "On an internal Apple email thread viewed by Mashable, one Apple employee speculated that the culprit may be firing "rubber rounds" at the buses". Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Why are the buses being attacked?

At least one Google bus has also been vandalized.

Apple's shuttles appear to be under attack. Four years ago, Google buses were attacked in protests against gentrification and increasing living costs amplified by the presence of tech companies.

California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel told The Post that it is still not known what was used to damage the buses, but added that they were likely struck while traveling at freeway speeds.

Interestingly, the buses aren't exactly marked out as Apple or Google but can still be made out from their distinctive color scheme.

Google and Apple did not respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation's request for comment in time for publication.
