Game of Thrones returns in 2019, HBO confirms for first time

According to The Guardian, the fans will have to wait for a year as Game of Thrones will be reportedly returning in 2019.

Filming for the final season started in October a year ago, and is expected to continue until mid-2018.

HBO confirmed creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would direct episodes of the six-episode season, along with Bryan Cogman and Dave Hill. They will collaborate on the six-episode, eighth and last season, to air in 2019.

Game of Thrones is taking a year off, USA cable network HBO announced on Thursday (4 January), confirming the widely-held understanding that one of history's most popular shows would not wrap until 2019.

The executive producers of the series are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield.
