Exynos 9810 processor allows more AI features, improved multimedia transfer

The firm says its Exynos 9 Series 9810, as mentioned before, is manufactured using company's second-generation 10-nanometer (nm) FinFET process.

With this, the Exynos 9810 processor will allow Samsung owners to multitask effortlessly such as transitioning between mobile apps with faster loading speed. The processor has a new eight-core CPU under its hood, four of which are powerful third-generation custom cores that can reach 2.9 GHz, with the other four optimised for efficiency. When compared to its immediate predecessor, the Exynos 9810 is at least twofold faster in the single-core performance while being 40 percent faster and more able in multi-core performance. The new Exynos chip also boasts advanced 3D facial recognition capabilities with a hint of AI. The processor also retains the biometric signatures from the user's face, iris, and fingerprint in a separate processing unit within the processor. It can recognize people or items in various photos, in other words, it has the ability to search images and categorize them really fast, thanks to its neural network-based deep learning. It will result in seamless multi-tasking and faster load and transactions time.

Samsung on Thursday unveiled its next-gen Exynos chip, the processor that will equip its flagships this year, including the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy Note 9.

The new chipset has support for depth sensing, for instance, and can scan a user's face in 3D for hybrid face detection.

On the modem side, Exynos 9810 SoC comes with LTE CAT-18 modem with 1.2Gbps download and 200Mbps upload, with 6x carrier aggregation for download, 4x4 MIMO, and 256-QAM.

The Exynos 9810 chip is already in mass production and it will be powering Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S9 alongside a Snapdragon 845 variant.

The oddity of Samsung brushing off Apple's Face ID back in December is now seen as a head-fake move knowing that their next generation Exynos9 series 9810 processor (as noted in our cover graphic) will actually deliver a similar feature.

If that sounds awfully familiar, then you're not wrong, as it's pretty much describing the Face ID and Animoji features you'll find on Apple's latest top smartphone. Samsung also promised better image stabilization, reduced noise in low light, 4K recording at up to 120 frames per second and "real-time, out-of-focus photography in high resolution", it said.
