According to the social networking giant, the request for account data surged 21% across the globe, compared to the latter half of 2016.

Facebook also says that 57% of the requests they got from USA law enforcement included a non-disclosure order that bans the company from telling the user that their data was requested.

The social media company also said Facebook Facebook restricted access to 1,228 pieces of content after requests from law enforcement agencies and the India Computer Emergency Response Team within the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The transparency report also had copies of five requests from the government for information that the company was not permitted to reveal previously due to concerns regarding national security. Cam Newton ruins Aaron Rodgers' return and ends Packers playoff hopes
Newton added 62 rushing yards on 11 designed runs and scrambles, picking up five first downs, two of which game on third down. An untouched Richard Rodgers cruised into the end zone with 2:43 left to play to narrow the Panthers lead to 31-24.

"We continue to carefully scrutinise each request we receive for account data - whether from an authority in the US, Europe, or elsewhere - to make sure it is legally sufficient", said Chris Sonderby, deputy general counsel at Facebook.

More than half of the requests were granted, above all in the United Kingdom (90%), U.S. (85%) and France (74%), said Facebook. If a request appears to be deficient or overly broad, we push back, and will fight in court, if necessary. Facebook suggested these shutdowns can create barriers for businesses and prevent people from sharing and communicating with their family and friends. For instance, in order for United States law enforcement to compel the disclosure of messages, photos and location information, they must provide a valid search warrant and have "probable cause". Around 70,000 requests for copyright were submitted to Instagram, with 685,000 posts removed. Keep in mind that when it comes to the sheer market size, India is the number two market for Facebook, with over 201 million users in the country. On Instagram, it made a move against 108,094 posts following 10,231 fake cases.

Specifically, Facebook restricted content for apparently violating law 28,036 times in the first six months of 2017, compared to 6,944 from the prior half-year.
