Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro: 25 planned, all sold

Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro

We already know Aston Martin's self-professed goal for the track-only version of its upcoming hypercar is for it to lap Silverstone Circuit "as quick or quicker" than a Formula One auto, but we now know how it hopes to achieve that. However, even a casual inspection of Adrian Newey's hypercar reveals a machine with such extreme potential, particularly with regard to its aerodynamic performance, that the circuit will surely be its natural home anyway. Race-spec carbon brakes are also part of the package.

Aston says that this vehicle will offer a top speed of over 250 miles per hour, cornering grip exceeding 3.3g, and 3.5g of maximum braking force. The Valkyrie AMR Pro sits on the same Michelin racing tires used on Le Mans Prototype 1 racers, and to accommodate the slicks, Aston has given the Valkyrie smaller, 18-inch wheels. After all, it's no longer a road vehicle. The electric part of the hybrid system will remain unchanged, but Aston says that it has recalibrated the engine and made modifications to the emissions control systems (at least auto makers are being honest about it these days) to boost power and torque. The 6.5-liter Cosworth V12 is also retuned to make more power.

The engine has been given a boost, too - though Aston Martin won't reveal how much by - thanks to less strict emissions controls.

Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro track car revealed

The two companies, who are strengthening their ties in F1 next year, have previously released images of the road version of the Valkyrie ahead of its 2019 launch and now given the world a first look at what is being described as the "no-holds-barred" track-only edition, which will be released a year later. Glass windows? Ditched for polycarbonate items.

In addition to more power, the model features larger front and rear wing elements for better aerodynamics.

According to Red Bull's simulation work, the AMR Pro will be capable of achieving lap times to rival a contemporary F1 or LMP1 vehicle. Maximum corning G for the hardcore Valkyrie is quoted at a phenomenal 3.3g. While those aren't as hardcore as the near-fighter-pilot forces that a full-on, top-class race auto achieves, Red Bull says their simulations suggest that the Valkyrie AMR Pro will be able to meet an F1 or LMP1 race cars on pace. Aston says all 25 AMR Pro cars are already sold ahead of the projected 2020 delivery date. The AMR Pro model sheds weight and tweaks everything to provide performance that Red Bull claims will rival an Formula One vehicle or a top-class Le Mans prototype.
