Senate Intelligence Committee leaders: Russian Federation did interfere in 2016 elections

How did Russia know to exploit race on FB

"On the issue of collusion, the work of our committee. continues", he said.

Pointing to what has so far been revealed about Russia' social media activity, Burr added that, "there's no way that you can look at that and say that was to help the right side of the ideological chart, and not the left or vise versa". Later this month, longtime Trump lawyer Michael Cohen is slated to testify in open session before the Senate committee.

The U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee chairman said on Wednesday the issue of whether President Donald Trump's 2016 election campaign colluded with Russian Federation remains an open question as the panel intensifies its probe into the matter.

"Campaign staff was attempting to implement what they believed to be guidance to be a strong ally on Ukraine, but also leave the door open for better relations with Russia", Burr said.

Burr said the committee had "hit a wall" regarding the verification of the collection of memos about Trump and Russian Federation written by Christopher Steele, a former British spy.

"But we don't close our consideration of it", he added. An FBI investigation began in July 2016. Burr said they still don't know who commissioned the dossier or who Steele's sources are. "Who are your sources and sub sources?" Richard Burr said during a press conference on Tuesday. Mark Warner, D-Virginia, asserted that they won't discuss their committee's specific initial Russian Federation investigation findings, they said that the results thus far have caused the inquiry to expand "slightly". Burr said the panel and its staff have reached a "general consensus" that they trust the intelligence community's assessment that Moscow directed an influence campaign in the us election.

Facebook Inc plans to hire 1,000 more people to review ads and ensure they meet its terms, as part of an effort to deter Russian Federation and other countries from using the social media network to interfere in others' elections, it said on Monday. Warner, intelligence committee ranking member said.

Saturday Night Live Returns Returns With Takedown of Trump's Puerto Rico Response
Trump on Saturday blasted her and those in the territory, whom he said "want everything to be done for them". Cruz complained in multiple interviews about the USA administration's response to the crisis in Puerto Rico.

Burr said his committee will not release the ads but encouraged Facebook to do so. "What about the totally biased and dishonest Media coverage in favor of Crooked Hillary?"

The committee has interviewed more than 100 witnesses as part of its investigation, including "everybody who had a hand" in an assessment on Russian meddling in the elections.

Burr said, however, that there was still much more work to do, even as he hoped to finish the investigation by the end of the calendar year.

"The Russian active measures efforts did not end on Election Day 2016", Warner added. Burr and Warner said the government must be proactive ahead of next year's midterm elections.

Burr said investigators have talked with everyone they wanted to get information about the Russian interference aspects of the matter, but he's now referring questions about it to Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller.

Burr said the committee plans to release its findings to the public when its investigation is complete, though said he couldn't say when that would be.
