Monarch Airlines administration - what to do if you're affected

Monarch

The airline has ceased trading and its 300,000 future bookings for flights and holidays have been cancelled, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said.

Some 110,000 passengers are believed to be stuck overseas as the UK-based budget Monarch airline announced all of its flights and holidays have been "canceled and are no longer operating".

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has commissioned special flights to bring stranded Monarch customers back to the United Kingdom at no additional cost over the next two weeks.

The Civil Aviation Authority's flying programme completed 61 flights in its first day of operation, returning passengers stranded by the collapse of Monarch Airlines to the UK.

Passengers who had been due to fly took to social media to say family holidays and other plans had been ruined, including some who had previously been affected by a raft of flight cancellations by Ryanair.

Administrators of the airline have confirmed that 1,760 personnel at the carrier have been made redundant, along with another 98 employed by Monarch Travel Group.

Monarch's collapse, which came as it failed to have a crucial licence renewed, was the largest to hit a British airline.

Here's what to do if you've booked a flight or holiday with Monarch.

Monarch Airlines has gone into administration after failing to secure its financial future over the weekend.

The British charter and scheduled flight operator Monarch Airlines ceased trading at 4am this morning and announced it had appointed KPMG as liquidators.

"We are putting together, at very short notice and for a period of two weeks, what is effectively one of the UK's largest airlines to manage this task", he said.

Money reports that some 300,000 future bookings have also been scrapped, while the U.K.'s Civil Aviation Authority scrambles to facilitate what it has called "the biggest ever United Kingdom airline failure".

Monarch Airlines operated services from Gibraltar to Gatwick, Manchester, Luton and Birmingham.

"The scale and challenge of this operation means that some disruption is inevitable".
