Kris Kobach Claims Voter Fraud in New Hampshire

NHPR Staff

In response to the New Hampshire Congressional Delegation urging Secretary of State Bill Gardner to resign from the US election commission, Gardner is saying, no, he wants to stay to help gather and assess all of the data, so there can be a dialog that will find the truth.

"So the notion that the commission's collection of data and investigating of this issue causes any state to do anything is a ridiculous statement".

"The problem that has occurred because of what you wrote is that the question of whether our election as we have recorded it is real and valid, and it is real and valid", Gardner said, prompting applause from the audience. "And it is real and valid".

Twenty states have sent in data, Kobach noted. In a column last week for Breitbart, the Kansas Secretary of State declared that voter fraud tipped the scales in the election a year ago in New Hampshire.

New Hampshire is one of 15 states that allow for same-day voter registrations.

Locally, the biggest story for days has been the mounting pressure on Secretary of State Bill Gardner of New Hampshire to end his participation on the commission. Nor is it required that they transfer their driver's license to New Hampshire nor register their vehicle there. They must only be "domiciled" in the state, meaning that New Hampshire is where they now live and spend most of their time - a description that applies, incidentally, to many college students. "But they couldn't find one of the dozens of female or minority experts who've studied and written extensively on elections over the past decade", said David Becker, the executive director of the Center for Election Innovation and Research and the former director of the elections program at The Pew Charitable Trusts.

"In that column I struggled with what verb to use". Trump has said on Twitter that New Hampshire, which he lost to Clinton by fewer than 2,800 votes, and two other states had "serious voter fraud".

A man in NY said he got voter ID cards sent to his home for family members who moved away decades ago and now vote elsewhere.

Nunes continued to chop her opponent's lead leg, but it did little to dissuade the challenger from launching into the exchanges. We'll get to the main event later, but I want to hit on some real shining moments from these UFC 215 results.

"Making this equation that somehow people not updating their driver's license is an indicator of voter fraud would be nearly as absurd as saying that if you have cash in your wallet, that that's proof that you robbed a bank", Maine Secretary of State Matt Dunlap said to applause.

Naturally, Kobach has stacked the panel of witnesses for his commission's second official meeting with fellow voter fraud conspiracy theorists, including Robert Popper, John Lott, Ken Block, Donald Palmer, and Hans von Spakovsky, to testify to the commission. However, this year, another Republican, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu tightened the voter registration laws, requiring proof of residence.

Just as the hearing got underway Tuesday morning, a judge with the Hillsborough County Superior Court South weighed in on another challenge to New Hampshire voting rights.

On June 30, Texas Secretary of State Rolando B. Pablos agreed to Kobach's request for voter information. "I think it's going to have to come from the federal government", he said.

Gardner is the nation's longest-serving secretary of state and has been re-elected by Democratic and Republican legislatures, largely due to his advocacy for keeping the state's primary first in the presidential nominating process. The Trump and Kobach commission should be shut down before it can cause lasting harm to our democracy. But they're stepping up toward changing policy at home first.

Hillary Clinton and Senator Maggie Hassan-who defeated the Republican incumbent, Kelly Ayotte-both won narrow victories in New Hampshire, in 2016. "And I will not, either".

This sentiment that facts were manipulated to keep Democrats from voting - and to make progressives look bad - was also reciprocated by State Senate Democratic Leader Jeff Woodburn. So Democrats on the panel are preparing rebuttals themselves. It proves the state can not threaten people with criminal prosecution for merely registering to vote.

Many pundits were shocked by post-election polls showing 25 percent of Americans believed President Trump's complaint that millions of illegal votes were cast in November (an extremely unlikely claim, by the way).
