Jury finds Minnesota officer not guilty in shooting death of Philando Castile

The officer fatally shot Castile after pulling him over for a broken taillight outside St. Paul a year ago.

Yanez was also charged with two felony counts of intentional discharge of a firearm that endangers safety for firing his weapon with Reynolds and her four-year-old daughter also in the vehicle.

The aftershock of the killing was live-streamed by Castile's fiancée, who sat in the passenger seat at the time of the shooting.

Minnesota Democratic governor Mark Dayton also weighed in, saying he did not think the shooting would have happened if Mr Castile had been white. The Minnesota Highway Patrol reported one arrest on I-94, KSTP reported.

A jury deliberated five days before clearing Yanez of all charges in the death of 32-year-old Philando Castile.

Video footage recorded by Reynolds only seconds after the shooting showed Castile dying in the auto and Yanez standing outside the driver's side of the vehicle, continuing to yell while pointing his gun inside the auto. More than 45 police officers began showing up within three minutes, he said. Yanez said he pulled Castile over because of a broken tail light on his auto, but radio transmissions later revealed that the officer thought Castile resembled a suspect in the robbery of the Super USA convenience store just days earlier. They argued that the officer overreacted and that Castile was not a threat. Police quickly diverted traffic.

July 14: A funeral for Castile at the St. Paul Cathedral draws thousands of mourners.

Prosecutor John Choi, who made the decision to charge Yanez, said he knows the acquittal is painful for many people, but that the verdict "must be respected".

Vice President Pence Hires Outside Lawyer To Deal With Russia Inquiries
Comey, a decision Trump later seemed to imply was related, in part, to the Russian Federation probe that Comey was overseeing. Vice President Mike Pence has retained outside counsel , his office confirmed, as scrutiny of the White House intensifies.

What's next in the Russia investigation
Both Gingrich and Ken Starr were closely involved in the investigation and impeachment of former President Bill Clinton. The possibility that Trump might at some point want to fire Mueller has to be viewed quite seriously.

Yanez is no longer a police officer with the St. Anthony Police Department, the city announced on Friday.

September 28: The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says it has completed its investigation and turned over its findings to Choi. Yanez was charged with manslaughter in the death of Castile. "The journey to healing for Philando's family, the kids who saw him every day at school, and his community certainly does not end here". He also faces two lesser counts of endangering Reynolds and her daughter for firing his gun into the auto near them. The review, still ongoing, includes an assessment of traffic stops and arrest demographics.

Yanez's defense attorneys commented to KARE 11 on camera. Afterward, one of his attorneys, Tom Kelly, said the defense was "satisfied". The judge called them back into the courtroom and reread a portion of the instructions to them.

Squad-car video played for the jury shows a wide view of the traffic stop and the shooting, with the camera pointed toward Castile's vehicle. The shooting prompted nationwide protests.

January 23: A bill is introduced in the Republican-controlled Minnesota House that would charge protesters for law enforcement costs associated with disruptive demonstrations.

Yanez testified that Castile ignored his commands not to pull out the gun and he feared for his life. Castile's mother yelled an expletive the moment the verdict was read. She says a permanent memorial is being planned.

Ploussard declined to say whether he thought Yanez acted appropriately.

February 27: Yanez enters a not guilty plea. The judge denied both requests. The trial offered transparency to the public and allowed a jury to determine legal responsibility in this case.
