Probe into Russian meddling heating up with AG testimony

Verma Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Secretary Tom Price U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and Vice President Mike Pence

Attorney General Jeff Sessions will testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, where he is expected to face a fresh round of questions about his contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

If he says yes, it could be an indication there are additional reasons for his recusal, beyond a few meetings with the Russian ambassador, that are not known publicly. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., a member of the committee, said on Sunday.

President Donald Trump has made an allegation of serious criminal wrongdoing against former FBI Director James Comey, and Trump's Republican allies are mostly ignoring the accusation. The Senate intelligence committee may choose to ask Sessions about friction between himself and the commander-in-chief.

"Yes, yes, yes", she said when Axelrod asked about the matter.

Spicer told reporters that the White House is reviewing the opinion but maintains the order is "fully lawful".

Media reports last week said Sessions offered to resign because of tensions with Trump over his decision to recuse himself from the FBI's Russian Federation probe. Pressed on the issue Friday, Trump said "I'll tell you about that maybe sometime in the very near future".

Third, Comey testified that Trump himself was never under investigation and never asked him to stop the Russian Federation probe. Memos that he had written in the course of his official government duties about privileged conversations with the President. U won't be unless Bob Mueller says so.

"So I' m inviting him to come testify, and we could work that out", Schumer said, adding they would also consult with Robert Mueller, the special counsel to oversee the probe into the Trump campaign's relations with Russian Federation, before the hearing.

Sessions recused himself from that inquiry in March after media reports that he had been in two previously undisclosed meetings previous year with Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak.

Comey said Trump "sat behind the desk and a group of us sat in a semi-circle of about six chairs facing him on the other side of the desk". The Justice Department has said that while Sessions was there, for a speech by Trump, there were no meetings or private encounters. James Lankford of Oklahoma, "releasing his memos is not damaging to national security".

"I mean it's the the President of the United States with me alone saying, 'I hope this, '" Comey explained. Preet Bharara told ABC's "This Week" that Trump was trying to "cultivate some kind of relationship" with him when he called him twice before the inauguration to "shoot the breeze".

In addition to his analysis about what former FBI Director James Comey did and did not say, he was struck by how the various Fox New personalities reacted. It is also entirely possible that Trump's conversations with Comey did not amount to obstruction of justice. "I think he-Sessions is making a calculation there that may be the intel committee is a little more friendly venue for him", he explained to King. "I have written two letters to Senator Grassley suggesting that", she added, referring to Iowa's Charles Grassley, the committee's chairman.

Testifying under oath is a "perjury trap", Hume said, since accidental false statements from a bad memory could be held against the witness as a lie. Dianne Feinstein of California has said there should be further investigation.

That remark came after revelations emerged that Sessions had met with Russia's ambassador to the US last year, despite testifying under oath during a confirmation hearing that he "did not have communications with the Russians".

Sessions faces questions about his contacts with Russia's ambassador to the US during the presidential campaign. He will be replaced at that appearance by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Comey declined to elaborate in an open setting.

Lankford appeared on CBS' "Face the Nation".
